Free Revok

Revok was arrested at LAX Thursday, April 21st and is now being held on $320,000 bail! That's ridiculous. On some bullshit charges by the way. Read more about it on the LA Times. MSK. Police are scandalous.

"Authorities claim Revok is a member of the graffiti crew Mad Society Kings, or MSK. Officials from the sheriff's department were notified that there was an outstanding warrant against Revok for failure to repay victims of previous vandalism incidents." Via: LA Times.

REVOK and ANGEL Present NOCTURNE

Graffiti Legend and Renowned Fashion Designer Premiere Book Set
At Art In The Streets Exhibition

(April, 13, 2011 – Los Angeles) Intersecting at the crossroads of skateboarding and graffiti, street art icon, REVOK, and celebrated street fashion designer, Angel Cabada, collaborate on a limited two-book set to premiere during the Art In The Streets exhibition at The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. Inspired by the underground activities of skateboarders and street artists, Nocturne looks behind the curtain, exposing a world of nightlife and criminal mischief through compelling imagery and candid photography.

Based in Los Angeles, REVOK and Cabada share a longstanding friendship and hold mutual respect for each others work. “Although REVOK and I come from different artistic backgrounds, there’s a very natural parallel between skateboarding and graffiti that hasn’t been deeply explored,” says Cabada.

With only 150 units printed, Nocturne is a two book, softbound collection including large and medium format posters, newsprint photo collages and a wool ski mask packaged in a custom bound box.

Nocturne will be on display April 17 through August 8, 2011 at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA in Los Angeles.

Art In the Streets @ MOCA

So incredibly dope! MOCA. Some of the artists include Futura, Barry McGee, Swoon, OS Gemeos, Chaz Bojorquez, and the Seventh Letter crew REVOK, RISK, SABER, and RETNA. Keith Haring, Basquiat, and Margaret Kilgallen, a few photographers like Larry Clark, Terry Richardson, and Estevan Oriol. Oh, and Banksy.

Art in the Streets is the first major U.S. museum survey of graffiti and street art. Curated by MOCA Director Jeffrey Deitch and Associate Curators Roger Gastman and Aaron Rose, the exhibition will trace the development of graffiti and street art from the 1970s to the global movement it has become today, concentrating on key cities such as New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, London, and Sao Paulo, where a unique visual language or attitude has evolved. The exhibition will feature paintings, mixed media sculptures, and interactive installations by 50 of the most dynamic artists and will emphasize Los Angeles's role in the evolution of graffiti and street art, with special sections dedicated to seminal local movements such as cholo graffiti and Dogtown skateboard culture. A comprehensive timeline illustrated with artwork, photos, video, and ephemera will provide a historical context for the work.
